Is it permissible for a woman to remove hair from her body during the day while she is fasting?

A fasting person removing hair from their head or body does not affect their fast, and there is no statement from the scholars indicating that it invalidates the fast. However, if the hair removal is prohibited, such as shaving a man's beard or eyebrows, then that is forbidden, and committing a prohibited act invalidates the fast according to some scholars, but the preponderant view is otherwise.

Those who contend that sins invalidate the fast cite the hadith: "Five things invalidate the fast of a fasting person: backbiting, slandering, lying, kissing, and a false oath." This hadith is, however, baseless. They also cite the hadith: "Whoever does not abandon false speech and acting upon it, Allah has no need for him to abandon his food and drink," and the hadith: "Fasting is not merely abstaining from food and drink; fasting is from vain talk and obscenity."

The majority of scholars interpret these hadith as an encouragement to avoid sins while fasting, and that such acts diminish the reward of the fast or negate it, but do not invalidate it.
