What is the ruling on writing or reading books that chronicle the lives of Islamic figures, which are based on authentic events, but whose dialogues are fabricated by the author?

Knowing the biographies of the Companions and the righteous is a great and commendable matter, due to the lessons and admonitions they offer, the example they set for us to emulate, and the steadfastness they bring to the heart, as mentioned in the Holy Quran. The presentation of their virtues must be based on authenticity and truth, not imagination, to avoid lying about them, disparaging them, or distorting their sayings which have been transmitted by scholars with chains of narration. It is advisable to avoid writing stories that contain fabricated dialogues for them, and to suffice with presenting their biographies and sayings as they were authentically transmitted, in an easy and accessible style.
