Semen is pure according to the preponderant opinion, but it becomes impure if mixed with pre-seminal fluid (madhiy). It is obligatory to wash away the impurity until its characteristics—taste, color, and odor—are removed. However, if the color and odor are difficult to remove after exerting effort, they are excused. The predominant assumption that the impurity has been removed is sufficient, and certainty is not required. Slight impurity that is not perceptible to the eye is excused by some scholars.
