Is the fast valid for a person whose tongue was cut during the daytime in Ramadan, with the intention to break the fast due to fear, obsessive thoughts, and dizziness, and who swallowed something they do not know if it was blood or thyme, and felt the presence of thyme stuck in their throat?

A fasting person's thoughts about breaking their fast before Fajr do not affect the fast. However, if such thoughts occur after Fajr, it falls under the category of wavering in intention. There are two opinions regarding this in the Maliki school, the stronger of which is that the fast is not invalidated. This is supported by the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Indeed, Allah has pardoned for my Ummah what they whisper to themselves as long as they do not act upon it or speak of it." Some scholars do not consider the intention to break the fast as invalidating it at all. A person suffering from intrusive thoughts (waswas) may adopt the lighter of these opinions. The fast remains valid as long as nothing is swallowed other than the usual saliva, even if a taste is felt in the throat.
