What is the ruling on a person excessively working and being late to sit with his parents at night, in light of a constant quarrel between them and their disrespect for his opinion? How can he achieve righteousness towards them? And is the father just in refusing to house his married daughter, in order to keep his unmarried children in the home?

A son must strive to please his parents and respond to their permissible and feasible requests. Obeying them takes precedence over communal obligations (fard kifaya) and expanding one's wealth. He should discuss matters with them gently, avoid quarreling, and strive to reconcile between them kindly. He should also supplicate for their rectification and guidance. Living with them is obligatory if they request it, however, it is not obligatory for him to live with them and his wife in the same apartment if the wife refuses. In such a case, he may live close to them and spend time with them.
