Is "Azazel" the name of Iblis—may Allah curse him—before he defied Allah, was cursed, and expelled from Paradise?

It is common in books of tafsir (Qur'anic exegesis) that the name of Iblis before the sin was Azazil, and they relate this from Ibn Abbas and others. However, Sheikh Al-Shanqiti refuted this in Adwa' Al-Bayan, considering it among the Isra'iliyyat (Judeo-Christian traditions) that are not to be relied upon. As for Azazil (with the hamza), it has not been found in available books.
