The answer

The first thing a person should prioritize when choosing a wife is character and religious commitment, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A woman is married for four things: for her wealth, for her lineage, for her beauty, and for her religion. So, choose the religious woman, and you will prosper." If the prospective spouses do not agree during the engagement period, it is more likely that they will not agree after marriage. Therefore, it is advisable to seek another (partner) before completing the marriage, given the situation you described, whose consequences might be more severe than its beginning. It must be noted that engagement is merely a promise of marriage, and the suitor remains a stranger to his fiancée until the legitimate marriage contract is concluded. Thus, it is not permissible for him to be alone with her or to touch her.
