Do watching movies free of prohibitions and writing poetry harm one’s commitment and affect sincere repentance and adherence to the Sunnah, or is it not inconsistent with them?

Repentance is obligatory and must be initiated, for Allah Almighty says: "And return [in repentance] to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes upon you; then you will not be helped" (Surat Az-Zumar, 54), and His saying: "The acceptance of repentance by Allah is only for those who do wrong in ignorance [or carelessness] and then repent soon after" (Surat An-Nisa, 17). The ruling on poetry varies depending on its content: what is good in it is good, and what is bad in it is bad. Watching movies, for the most part, is not free from objectionable elements, and some are more reprehensible and forbidden than others. There are regulations for their permissible viewing.
