Is it permissible for a girl who vowed sincere repentance if she succeeded in her studies—even though she did not intend it as a vow or an act of drawing closer to God—to be released from her vow if she finds difficulty fulfilling it, and she watches TV series and listens to songs? And is it permissible for her to fast three days as expiation for this vow without informing her family?

Watching TV series and listening to songs and music are forbidden according to the majority of contemporary scholars, and this prohibition is not exclusive to Ibn Uthaymeen alone. Repentance is immediately obligatory by the consensus of jurists, and delaying it is an additional sin. A vow to repent is not valid because repentance is inherently obligatory. One must repent to Allah from listening to songs and watching TV series, and from delaying repentance.
