Is it obligatory to ignore tribulations and signs that indicate the prohibition of certain permissible matters, or should one forbid them upon oneself?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Nothing is forbidden except what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden. Watching television is permissible if it involves permissible things, and it is recommended if it aids in obedience to Allah, such as beneficial lectures. Going out with friends is not forbidden if it is free of wrongdoing, and it is legislated if it includes obedience, such as studying knowledge. Reading stories that are free of Sharia prohibitions is not forbidden. Trials are not related to doing these permissible things, so do not forbid for yourself what Allah has made lawful for you because of delusions. True commitment is by performing obligations and avoiding prohibitions, then performing recommended acts and avoiding disliked acts, not by forbidding the lawful and avoiding permissible things.
