Did Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah in his early life not grow up upon the methodology of the Salaf, but rather upon the methodology of the people of innovation, and were his shaykhs not upon the methodology of the Salaf, as stated in "Majmu' al-Fatawa"?

In the early part of his life, Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah - may Allah have mercy on him - held the creed of his forefathers regarding the issues of "voluntary attributes" (al-Sifat al-Ikhtiyariyyah) and "innovated visitation" (al-Ziyarah al-Bid'iyyah). He believed that Allah is not characterized by voluntary attributes, and that visiting the mosques of Mecca and its surroundings was recommendable. However, after it became clear to him what the Messenger of Allah - peace and blessings be upon him - brought, he recanted these positions and followed what Allah revealed in His Book and the Sunnah of His Messenger. He mentioned that the aforementioned issues are among the innovations that have no basis in Islamic Law.
