Is it permissible to give special attention to esteemed guests and offer them more food?

Favoring the rich with special food or seating arrangements, separate from other guests, can lead to their humiliation and cause them sorrow. This contradicts the very purpose of hospitality, which is to honor guests. Indeed, Ibn al-Arabi stated that such an act breaks their spirit and incurs sin. Furthermore, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, described a walima (feast) to which the rich are invited while the poor are excluded as "the worst of food." This is because it involves preferential treatment of the rich and neglect of the poor, thereby undermining the purpose of food, which is generosity towards the needy. Therefore, a host should avoid such behavior due to the harm it causes, the humiliation it inflicts upon guests, and the sorrow it introduces into their hearts. Islamic law prohibits anything that brings sorrow to a Muslim's heart.
