What is the ruling on the custom of eating under the slogan "O soul, whatever you desire" at the end of Sha'ban?

This custom has no origin in the Quran or the Sunnah. Rather, the Sunnah is to fast frequently in Sha'ban, while it is forbidden to fast after the middle of Sha'ban, or one or two days before Ramadan for those who do not have a regular habit [of fasting]. This custom indicates the panic and eagerness of its practitioners regarding their desires, and their sorrow at losing them during the daytime in Ramadan.
