Did God create us for anything other than enjoying this world?

The meaning of "mataa'" (enjoyment/provision) is something that is temporarily enjoyed and then vanishes. It has been mentioned in the Holy Quran that the entire worldly life is "mataa'" because its pleasures are temporary and fleeting, and the Hereafter is the eternal abode. This worldly life and its adornments are enjoyed for a short period and quickly fade away, whereas what is with Allah is better and everlasting. The verses indicate that preferring the Hereafter over this worldly life is a sign of sound intellect.
