Is the interpretation of the noble verse, "And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life]," to mean "the end of every difficult matter is good and comfort," and that it is an assurance that after great pain comes great joy, a correct interpretation?

The well-known opinion among exegetes is that the meaning of "the Last" (al-akhirah) and "the First" (al-ula) in His Almighty's saying, "And indeed the Last [life] will be better for you than the First [life]" (Qur'an 93:4), refers to the Hereafter and this world. It is also said that "the Last" is the outcome and end of a matter, and "the First" is its beginning. Some exegetes hold that the verse is glad tidings to the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, that his future state will be better than his previous state, whether in this world through victory and the triumph of the religion, or in the Hereafter. This favor cannot be generalized to all people; rather, it is specific to those who follow the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and it is commensurate with their degree of following.
