How can ta'rid and tawriyah be defined, and what are their forms and controls in light of the hadith: "It is a grave betrayal that you narrate to your brother a narration that he believes from you, while you are a liar therein"?

The hadith (definition) is weak. Even assuming its authenticity, the use of allusive speech (ma'arid) with its legal stipulations is not included within its prohibition. If an overriding legitimate interest or an unavoidable necessity necessitates such circumlocution, then there is no objection. Otherwise, it is disliked. If it leads to usurping what is false or denying what is true, then it is prohibited.
