Is it permissible to abandon the supererogatory prayers after the obligatory prayer?

What is obligatory upon a Muslim are the five daily prayers, fasting Ramadan, and zakat. A Muslim should not turn away from the supererogatory acts, especially the regular voluntary prayers (rawatib), because they compensate for any deficiencies that may occur in the obligatory duties. As stated in the Hadith: "Indeed, the first thing a servant will be called to account for on the Day of Resurrection from his deeds will be his prayer. If it is sound, he will have succeeded and prospered; and if it is deficient, he will have failed and lost. If there is any deficiency in his obligatory prayer, the Lord, the Mighty and Exalted, will say: 'See if My servant has any supererogatory prayers with which to complete what was deficient in his obligatory prayer.' Then all his other deeds will be dealt with in a similar manner."
