- What are the pillars, conditions, and duties of Hajj, and what are the prohibitions of Ihram?

The pillars (arkan) of Hajj are: Ihram, standing at Arafat, Tawaf al-Ifadah, and Sa'i between Safa and Marwah. The Shafi'is also add shaving or shortening the hair.

The واجبات (obligatory acts) of Hajj are: Entering Ihram from the Miqat, spending the night in Muzdalifah, stoning the Jamarat, spending the nights in Mina during the days of Tashreeq, standing at Arafat for a portion of the night, shaving or shortening the hair, and Tawaf al-Wada' (farewell circumambulation).

The conditions (shurut) for Hajj are: Islam, puberty, sanity, freedom, ability (istita'ah), and the presence of a mahram for women.

The prohibitions (mahthurat) of Ihram common to both men and women are: Using perfume, removing hair and nails, sexual intercourse and its preludes, contracting marriage, and hunting land game. The prohibitions specific to men are: Wearing tailored clothing that fits the limbs. Those specific to women are: Covering the face if they do not mix with non-mahram men, and wearing gloves.
