The answer

The damage for which monetary compensation is permissible is actual financial damage. As for moral or emotional damage, it is not a subject for monetary compensation according to the majority of scholars. Rather, in such cases, the perpetrator is punished, and they are obliged to restore the victim's honor, but without financial compensation. It is not permissible to take compensation in exchange for dropping a lawsuit or complaint, even if it would relieve the perpetrator of a physical punishment or a financial fine, because it is not a subject for monetary compensation. Jurists have stipulated the invalidity of a settlement that involves taking compensation for refraining from testifying, or for not reporting a thief, adulterer, or drunkard to the authorities, because these rights are not financial and it is not permissible to take monetary compensation for them.
