What is the ruling on a Muslim man marrying a Christian or Jewish woman in this era, and does its ruling differ from the time of the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace?

Scholars have agreed on the permissibility of marrying a Kitābīyah (a woman from the People of the Book) with certain conditions and details. So, if she belongs to a people who entered the religion before its distortion and abrogation, marrying her is permissible. If they entered after the distortion and before the abrogation, and they adhered to the truth, then it is permissible; otherwise, it is not. If they entered after both the distortion and the abrogation, then marrying her is not permissible. As for an Israelite woman, marrying her is permissible absolutely due to the nobility of lineage, as long as her forefathers did not enter the religion after the Prophet's (peace be upon him) mission. The Quran permitted marrying Kitābīyāt despite the presence of distortion in their scriptures.
