How accurate is the interpretation of "the poor/needy" (al-masakin) in the Hadith as "the humble"?

There is no contradiction between the hadiths concerning the poor and the needy. Indeed, the majority of the inhabitants of Paradise are the poor and the needy. It has been reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saw that the common folk who entered Paradise were the needy, and that the poor among the Muhajirun would precede the wealthy into Paradise. The people of Paradise are "every weak, downtrodden person, who, were he to swear by Allah, Allah would fulfill his oath." The meaning of "downtrodden" is that people consider him weak and disdain him, or that he is humble, obscure, and self-effacing. It could also mean having tender, soft, and submissive hearts towards faith.
