What should a man do whose French wife converted to Islam then apostatized, and he has a son with her, regarding emigrating to a Muslim country and marrying a woman who wears the niqab, or staying in France to raise his son upon Islam, knowing that his mother opposes his emigration and the niqab is forbidden in France?

If a woman apostatizes from Islam, she forfeits the right to child custody, and the child must be taken from her. If this is not possible, the wife may be brought to care for the child. The niqab is obligatory according to the relied-upon opinion, and if it is difficult for her, there is no harm in uncovering the face out of necessity. If the father fears for his religion, he must emigrate, while maintaining communication with his son and supplicating for him. Obedience to the mother is only in what is good and permissible, and it is not obligatory to obey her in matters that harm the son's religion.
