How can a man extricate himself from the predicament of being married to a woman whom he found does not meet the level of religiosity and morality he aspired to, while feeling aversion towards her and sometimes harming her? Should he endure this situation, or divorce her and bear the children's expenses?
It is recommended to be patient with one's wife, to treat her kindly, to overlook her shortcomings, and to focus on her good qualities; based on the words of Allah Almighty: {And live with them in kindness. For if you dislike them - perhaps you dislike a thing and Allah makes therein much good} [An-Nisa: 19], and the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "No believing man should hate a believing woman; if he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another." Love is not a prerequisite for the continuation of marital life. However, if this does not help and you remain averse to her, then there is no blame in divorcing her.
