What is the ruling on a person feeling that he holds a special status with God and that he is among the righteous saints, immune to harm? Is this considered arrogance that contradicts acceptance of God's decree, especially considering the fluctuation in his morals and his sometimes poor treatment of his mother, as well as the fulfillment of some of his dreams?

Conceit is an affliction that ravages the servant's heart, stemming from his ignorance of his own condition, sins, and flaws, and his ignorance of the greatness of his Lord and the rights of His servitude. Its cure lies in realizing Allah's blessings, seeing one's own shortcomings and deficiencies, and being utterly dependent on Allah and broken before Him. For the one who truly knows Allah journeys towards Him, oscillating between observing divine favor and scrutinizing the self's flaws and deeds, as is evident in the Master of Supplication for Forgiveness (Sayyid al-Istighfar). Truly, Allah's saints, out of humility, do not see themselves as anything, unlike those who are conceited. There is no specific expiation for conceit other than repentance and abandoning it.
