Is it permissible to love a country for the presence of religious scholars and reformers within it, and is this considered a part of faith?
Loving one's country is undoubtedly permissible. If it contains religious scholars and reformers, then loving it is even more deserving due to its increased merit. Loving a country because of the presence of scholars and reformers within it stems from loving those scholars and reformers. And loving believers in general is a requisite of (monotheism), for which Allah has ordained a great reward. One of the greatest benefits of loving people of virtue is that the lover will be resurrected with them and attain their status, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, you will be with those you love," and "A person is with whom he loves." Therefore, loving one's country for the sake of the scholars and reformers present within it is a part of faith.
