What is the ruling on hunting and eating doves, and what is its basis?

Hunting and eating pigeons are permissible because they are a permissible bird. The basis for the permissibility of hunting is the Almighty's saying: "And when you are out of pilgrim attire, you may hunt," and His saying: "They ask you, 'What has been made lawful for them?' Say, 'All good things have been made lawful for you.'" Also, according to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying in the hadith of Adi ibn Hatim: "Whatever is pierced, eat, but what is killed by its breadth, do not eat." The scholars have unanimously agreed on the permissibility of hunting. Whoever wishes to hunt should learn its rulings. If the game is killed by the bluntness of what was thrown at it, it is not lawful to eat. If it is found alive, it is not lawful to eat unless it is slaughtered. If it is found dead and pierced, it is lawful to eat. It is recommended to say "Bismillah" when aiming at the target.
