The forbidden oath is that which is sworn by other than the names or attributes of Allah Almighty. It is therefore forbidden for a Muslim to swear by other than Allah Almighty, such as by created beings, because the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, Allah forbids you from swearing by your fathers. Whoever swears an oath, let him swear by Allah or remain silent."
