What is the ruling on entering chat rooms and forums for entertainment and to look at topics, knowing what they may contain of obscene talk?

A Muslim should refine his soul and elevate it to the highest morals, avoiding places of corruption such as gatherings of frivolity and amusement that waste energy and time. A Muslim is conscious of the blessing of free time and seeks the best deeds to fill his days and hours, recalling the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Two blessings which many people squander: good health and free time." Time is the most precious possession a servant has, and the wise person is he who fills his time with righteous and beneficial deeds. One should stay away from empty gatherings, idle talk, and the company of the lazy. A Muslim must not entertain himself by listening to sins and witnessing evil deeds, and should be keen on what benefits him, for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Be keen on what benefits you and seek help from Allah." A servant will be questioned on the Day of Judgment about his life, knowledge, wealth, and body. Therefore, one must beware of chat rooms that have corrupted many, separated loved ones, and led to mischief; they are of little benefit and much harm.
