It is recommended to strive to advise relatives who commit evil, guiding them with gentleness, kindness, and good words, warning them of Allah's punishment, and reminding them of what is prepared for the disobedient, in order to combine maintaining kinship ties with enjoining good and forbidding evil. It is not permissible to remain silent about evil; rather, it must be denounced by hand, or by tongue, or by heart, while ensuring that this does not lead to a greater corruption. If relatives sever ties because of advice, this is not considered a severing of kinship. It is permissible to abandon someone persistent in disobedience if advice is unhelpful and it is hoped that they will return to rectitude.
