Is it permissible for a wife to abandon her husband and refuse intimacy with him after he secretly married and divorced his second wife, and problems persist between them despite his attempts to appease her, while they are living in a foreign country?

The wife is lawfully entitled to her husband's intimacy, just as he is entitled to hers, based on the Almighty's saying: "And due to them [wives] is similar to what is due from them [husbands] in a reasonable manner." The matter of love is of the heart, but endearment, beautification, and good companionship are obligatory upon her. If the wife harms or is harmed, she should come to her husband and say: "By God, I will not rest until you are pleased." It is not the wife's right to abandon her husband, refuse intimacy with him, or seek divorce because he married another. These actions are considered an-nushuz (disobedience/rebellion), and can be remedied by the intervention of wise family members and by supplication.
