Is the Prophet's blood, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, pure or not, and is he who says it is not pure an innovator?

The majority of scholars hold the view that flowing blood is impure. Some, however, maintain that all blood is pure, except for what exits from the two private parts. Others are of the opinion that human blood is pure because there is no evidence for its impurity.

As for the blood of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, scholars have differed regarding it: - Those who affirm the purity of blood in general consider the Prophet's blood to be pure. - Those who deem human blood impure are divided into two opinions: - First: The blood of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is impure like that of other human beings. - Second: The blood of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is pure and an exception. They cite as evidence the narrations of the Companions drinking his blood and urine without him condemning them. However, the narration about drinking blood is weak, while the narration about drinking urine is authentic. The majority of Shafi'i scholars affirmed the impurity of his blood and excretions, peace and blessings be upon him, like others, while some later scholars among them leaned towards the purity of his blood.

This issue involves a considerable difference of opinion, and one should not accuse others of innovation regarding it. It is among the superfluous matters of knowledge upon which no action is built.
