Is it permissible to pay part of the cost of Hajj with a grant conditioned upon attending a religious course, and must this amount be returned, or is it permissible to spend it on charitable causes if the condition is met?

The payment of the third installment by the company organizing the Hajj on behalf of the pilgrim, in exchange for his attendance at a religious course on Hajj, is considered a conditional gift. It becomes due upon the fulfillment of its condition, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Muslims are bound by their conditions." If the course is not attended completely, the company must be informed of that, and they have the right to reclaim the installment or to waive it. Giving it away as charity on their behalf is not permissible.
