If a Muslim acquires unlawful wealth and uses it to build his house, he must repent and dispose of the amount of unlawful money by spending it on general Muslim interests or for the poor and needy. If the money was taken by usurpation or theft, it must be returned to its owner or his heirs. If returning it is not possible, it should be spent on charitable causes. There is no obligation to sell the house if the money can be returned from another source. If the house is sold, there is no obligation to dispose of more than the amount of unlawful money only.
