What is the Sharʿī ruling concerning the wife, the mother-in-law, and their family members who interfere in the couple's life, prevent the wife from returning to her marital home, and exhibit aggressive behavior towards the husband, while the husband wishes not to divorce?

"A wife is religiously obligated to obey her husband in matters that do not involve disobedience to Allah, and not to leave his house except with his permission. Her obedience to him takes precedence over her obedience to her mother. It is forbidden for the wife's mother to interfere and incite her daughter to disobey her husband, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: 'He is not of us who incites a woman against her husband.'

The husband should manage his relationship with his wife well and be wise in dealing with her. He should win her over to his side and convince her of the obligation to obey him and that his rights precede those of her mother. If the wife obeys her husband, her mother will cease her interference.

The husband should advise his wife about the impermissibility of leaving the house without his permission and that this constitutes nushooz (disobedience), which deprives her of financial support. He should be gentle and wise, not completely preventing her from visiting her relatives. He should also mend his relationship with his mother-in-law and her siblings, forgive them, and seek mediation from someone who can reconcile them. They should be aware that there are ties of kinship and marriage between them that ought to be respected."
