What is the ruling on a man divorcing his wife while in a state of anger for the first time? And does she return to him merely by his reviewing her after she has stayed at her family's home for almost three months? And is it necessary for her return to pay expiation or to register the incident in the courts?

Anger has levels, and it may reach a point where divorce is not considered. However, if the divorce of an angry person is considered for the first or second time, he can take back his wife by word or deed with the intention of reconciliation. If the waiting period (iddah) expires without reconciliation, the wife becomes irrevocably divorced with a minor separation (baynunah sughra), and a new contract and dowry are required to remarry her. No expiation (kaffara) is required to take back the wife, and it is not a condition to register the reconciliation in courts, but it is recommended to have witnesses for the reconciliation.
