Is it recommended to perform ablution for every prayer, as a supererogatory act?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is understood from the hadith of Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) that it is desirable to maintain ablution and prayer thereafter. It is also desirable to renew ablution for one who has prayed with the first ablution, whether it was an obligatory or a supererogatory prayer. As for one who has not prayed with the first ablution, it is not desirable for him to renew ablution; rather, it is considered an innovation (bid'ah). An exception to renewing ablution is made if the two prayers are consecutive, such as the regular sunnah prayers with their obligatory counterparts, or Tarawih prayer with Witr, or combining two prayers like Maghrib and Isha; in these cases, it is not desirable to renew ablution.
