"My brother’s wife behaved inappropriately toward her nephew (her husband’s sister’s son), who is a maḥram to her. She sent him shameful messages and threatened him when he tried to advise her. When she escalated and asked to meet him at a hotel, he came to me terrified and told me everything. I sought advice from a local scholar who told me not to inform my brother but to advise her instead. When I did, she denied everything, accused the boy, and insulted me and my family. She even admitted she only married my brother to come to the Gulf and live comfortably. Eventually, my brother found out, but she twisted the story. I had to show him the evidence. Now he wants me to reconcile with her, but I’ve cut ties and refuse to see her again. Am I sinful for not agreeing to reconcile?"

"This woman must be boycotted to protect you from her corruption, and your brother must separate from her, because she has said about herself that she is an infidel and has left Islam. If she renews her Islam during the waiting period ('iddah), it is permissible to return to her with the same previous contract, or with a new contract after the end of the waiting period. We emphasize the importance of religion and character in marriage; because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ""A woman is married for four things... So, win the one with religious commitment, may your hands be filled with dust."" The meaning is: Choose the one with religious commitment and bring her close, and if you do not, you will become poor. What is befitting for people of honor and religion is that religion be the basis of choice. That is why the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, urged winning the one with religious commitment. And Allah knows best.
