Is Abd al-Razzaq al-San'ani considered reliable in narrating Hadith, after his criticism of the Commander of the Faithful, Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, based on what was transmitted from him in al-Dhahabi's "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala' (The Lives of Noble Figures)"?

The story of Abd al-Razzaq al-San'ani is not sufficiently proven. Al-Dhahabi tracked it down, stating that it contains irsāl (a broken chain of transmission). If it were proven, it would be a slip and a stumble of the tongue on his part, and no one is infallible after the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Abd al-Razzaq al-San'ani is trustworthy, and what is attributed to him concerning Shiism does not impugn his integrity or the soundness of narrations from him. Indeed, the masters of the Sahih collections relied upon him, and such occasional slips do not warrant abandoning narrations from one whose trustworthiness and leadership in hadith have been attested to by the unanimous statements of the imams.
