What is the ruling regarding a wife remaining with her husband in Western countries if he only prays during hardship, earns money through usury, betrays her via the internet, abuses her with insults, beatings, and threats of divorce, and forces her to give him half of her income?
Success in marital life is achieved through obedience to Allah and mutual respect between spouses, as Allah Almighty says: "And due to them [the wives] is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable." Your husband commits many forbidden acts such as abandoning prayer, engaging in usury, and communicating with foreign women, and he neglects your rights by verbally abusing and physically assaulting you. We advise you to pray for him. If his condition does not improve through direct advice or through another advisor, then you have the right to separate from him by khul' (divorce initiated by the wife) or divorce if that is better for you. Otherwise, be patient with him and continue trying to reform him. An independent dwelling is a right of the wife, and her money is her own unless she willingly gives it or it was stipulated that she work for a specific amount to be given to him.
