Is it obligatory for a girl to search for a husband herself or through a matchmaker without her family's knowledge if she is advanced in age and no suitor has come to her, despite her piety and possession of what qualifies her for marriage?

It is permissible, according to Islamic law, for a woman to offer herself to a righteous man and inform him of her desire for him due to his good qualities. This does not diminish her honor; rather, it indicates it. A woman once did this with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and Umar ibn al-Khattab offered his daughter Hafsa to Uthman, and the righteous man offered one of his two daughters to Musa, peace be upon him. It is permissible for a mature woman to propose for herself, just as it is permissible for her to be proposed for by her guardian. It is recommended for parents to offer their daughter to someone for whom it is legally permissible, provided that lawful means are available and impediments are absent, fearing the occurrence of 'adhl (unjust prevention of marriage).
