Do the Quranic verses that appeared after performing Istikhara (guidance prayer) – “And if they be poor, Allah will enrich them out of His bounty” (Quran 24:32) and “And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He put between you affection and mercy” (Quran 30:21) – constitute evidence for approving the suitor, or is this method of supplication and searching for signs in this manner impermissible?
If it becomes clear that the young man is of good religious character and morals, he should be accepted as a husband; for religious character and morals are the legitimate criteria for acceptance and rejection, as confirmed by the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "If someone whose character and religious commitment you approve of comes to you [to propose], then marry him. If you do not do so, there will be tribulation on earth and widespread corruption."
Material, social, and professional differences should not be a reason for rejection; for material status is of no avail if religious commitment and morals are absent, as Allah Almighty says: "Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you," and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, there is no superiority for an Arab over a non-Arab, nor for a non-Arab over an Arab, nor for a red person over a black person, nor for a black person over a red person, except by piety. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you."
It is recommended to seek Allah's guidance (istikharah) before embarking on any matter, for the feeling of contentment and the facilitation of affairs after istikharah are signs of goodness. As for opening the Mus'haf for divination, that has a different ruling.
