Does the emotional relationship between a young man and a young woman—represented by an agreement to marry without repeated meetings—displease God? And what should the girl do so as not to displease God nor lose the young man?

It is not permissible to establish an illicit relationship between a man and a woman who is a stranger to him, even if the purpose is marriage or with the family's knowledge. One must not remain in a relationship that leads to something forbidden unless the marriage contract (aqd al-qiran) has been concluded. It is permissible to answer calls from the suitor for a need, such as arranging marriage matters, if temptation (fitna) is secure, and the conversation should be within the bounds of etiquette and Islamic law. It is preferable that this be with the mahrams of the fiancée. It is not permissible to talk about love and flirtation; it is sufficient to look and speak for need and necessity. It is preferable to cut off communication with him and focus on communicating with his sisters and mother to request expediting the completion of the marriage.
