Does seeking forgiveness for one's parents raise their status?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Supplicating for one's parents and seeking forgiveness for them is a prescribed, desirable, and beneficial act for them, both during their lives and after their death. It elevates their status, as Allah the Almighty says: "And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, 'My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.'" And as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, knowledge from which others benefit, or a righteous child who supplicates for him."
