What is the ruling on a girl working in nursing, and how can parents be persuaded to approve of it?

It is permissible for a girl to work in nursing, provided she adheres to Islamic legal guidelines. Indeed, it may even be obligatory due to the need of women for female nurses. If the refusal comes from individuals other than the parents, obedience to them is not required. However, if the refusal comes from the parents, then a distinction is made: if the prohibition is for a legitimate Sharia reason (such as fear of fitna or intermingling), then obedience to them is obligatory. Otherwise, obedience to them is not obligatory if the prohibition is merely out of obstinacy and caprice, especially if they do not provide an alternative and the girl fears harm. They can be persuaded through calm dialogue and by explaining the importance of the specialization that suits her and the service to Muslims.
