Are all types of alcohol intoxicating and forbidden, and do coriander, fenugreek, and sour milk intoxicate?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Shariah has laid down a general rule prohibiting everything that intoxicates, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Every intoxicant is khamr (wine)," and "Every intoxicant is forbidden." Therefore, if it is proven that alcohol, nutmeg, ambergris, saffron, coriander, cotton flower, or similar substances, cause intoxication, then it is forbidden to consume the intoxicating amount of them, because intoxication is the covering of the intellect, and it carries the same warning as khamr.
