What are the authenticated and verified interpretations (tafsirs) that can be relied upon for teaching the Holy Quran?

Books of Tafsir (Qur'anic exegesis) vary in their focus. Some are tafsirs by transmitted tradition (Tafsir bi al-Ma'thur), such as Tafsir al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir, and their abridgments like "'Umdat al-Tafsir" by Ahmad Shakir.

"Tayseer al-Kareem al-Rahman" by al-Sa'di is suitable for beginners and adheres to the منهج أهل السنة (methodology of the People of Sunnah). "Adwa' al-Bayan" by al-Shanqeeti is distinguished by its scholarly treatment of theological and jurisprudential issues.

As for Tafsir al-Qurtubi, it is good for the rulings of the Qur'an and its linguistic meanings, but it concurred with the Ash'aris on some verses concerning the divine attributes.

"Fath al-Qadeer" by al-Shawkani is considered good.

There are tafsirs from which one must be cautious, such as "Al-Kashshaf" by al-Zamakhshari, due to its inclusion of theological deviations, and "Tafsir al-Jalalayn," despite its usefulness, contains some errors in its interpretation of verses concerning divine attributes and in its handling of Isra'iliyat (Judeo-Christian traditions).

Among the best books that clarify Isra'iliyat is "Al-Isra'iliyat wal-Mawdu'at fi Kutub al-Tafsir" by Abu Shahba.

"Fi Dhilal al-Qur'an" by Sayyid Qutb is characterized by its reflections and its connection of the verses to contemporary reality.
