Is ghusl obligatory after egg retrieval and before the embryo is returned to the uterus in in-vitro fertilization?

The ruling on whether ghusl (ritual bath) is obligatory in the mentioned case depends on the nature of the ovum. If the expulsion of the ovum is not accompanied by the emission of semen, then ghusl is not obligatory. However, if it is accompanied by the forceful emission of semen with pleasure, then ghusl is obligatory by the consensus of jurists. If semen is emitted not in a state of pleasure and desire, ghusl is not obligatory according to the majority of scholars. In contrast, the Shafi'is and some Malikis and Hanbalis hold that ghusl is obligatory upon the emission of semen in any state.
