Is Zakat obligatory on gold that was retrieved after the the engagement was broken?

The jewelry is one of two cases: either it is a pure gift, in which case it is not reclaimable after being taken possession of, or it is part of the Mahr (dowry), in which case it must be returned to the suitor if the engagement is annulled. If it was a gift and has been taken possession of, you have no right to reclaim it or pay Zakat on it.
