What is the way to deal with the brother's wife, whom the questioner married to care for his orphans, and who is ten years older than him, and whose jealousy is characterized by blindness and suspicion, and whose period of estrangement is prolonged, despite attempts at reconciliation, which makes him think of divorcing her were it not for the presence of the children?

Firstly: Many women do not grasp the difference between jealousy, suspicion, and doubt, which leads to the destruction of their marriage and the breakdown of their family. A wise wife is one who weighs matters precisely and strives for trust and happiness with her husband.

Secondly: The husband is advised to be patient and deliberate with his wife, as women's natures differ from men's. Enjoying one's wife is not without some "crookedness" in her behavior, as stated in the prophetic tradition: "Indeed, a woman was created from a rib, and she will never be straightforward with you on a path. If you enjoy her, you enjoy her while she has crookedness. If you try to straighten her, you will break her, and breaking her is divorcing her." Therefore, being patient with her and attempting to reform her by increasing her knowledge, faith, good treatment, and supplication is better, for divorce causes dispersion and loss for the family and children. However, if the husband cannot bear her and wrongs her, divorcing her is permissible, knowing that there are many other women, and Allah Almighty says: "But if they separate [by divorce], Allah will enrich each [of them] from His abundance. And Allah is ever Encompassing and Wise."
