How sound is the statement that building faith-based convictions cannot be achieved through illusory information or information incompatible with the empirical scientific method or the sound, uninterrupted revelation, and is heartfelt belief in God alone insufficient without rational proofs?

Not building faith convictions on illusions is a right and a methodology of Islam. However, building matters of faith is not limited to rational proofs and universally transmitted texts; rather, it is also built upon sound solitary narrations (Ahadith Ahad). For the soundness of belief in Allah, innate faith (fitra) suffices, and this is not a belief without proof. The existence of Allah is clearer to minds and innate dispositions than the existence of daylight, as Ibn Al-Qayyim said: "How can one seek proof for He who is proof for everything?" This is why the messengers addressed their peoples by saying: {Is there any doubt about Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth?} (Quran 14:10). The innate faith of some common Muslims may even surpass the faith of many rationalists and theologians, as Abu al-Ma'ali said: "Hold fast to the religion of old women."
